NJJGLL 2011 FAQs

Certification
Q:  Do all the coaches for my 7/8 Senior Select teams have to be Level I certified?

A:  It depends.  If the 7/8 Senior Select team in question is playing a game using Level A rules only the Head Coach needs to be Level I certified.  If your 7/8 Senior Select team is playing a game using Level FC rules then all of the coaches on the sideline have to be Level I certified.

Q:  I have completed all elements required for Level I certification and have submitted my CEP portfolio but have not yet received my new membership card from US Lacrosse.  How do I prove I’m Level I Certified?

A:  If you properly submitted your coaching portfolio and passed the background check you should have received an email from US Lacrosse stating that you are now Level I certified.  Print out a copy of that email and bring it with you to games to prove your Level I status.

Q:  I attended the US Lax Level I clinic offered earlier this year.  They gave me a completion certificate.  Does that mean I’m Level I certified?

A: No!  There are multiple steps to successfully completing the US Lacrosse Level I certification process.

STEP 1
Take all three (3) courses in the Coaching Education Program (CEP):  Complete your educational components (EC's):
· CEP Level 1 on-line course
· CEP Level 1 Instructional Clinic
· PCA Double Goal Coach 1 course - Coaching for Winning and Life Lessons - is completed on-line or at a live workshop (http://www.positivecoach.org/). Online access is provided free with your 2011 Level 1 clinic registration - please check your confirmation e-mail. Or, enter code USLax2011 at the PCA web site for a 20% USL member discount.
• These components may be completed in any order you wish. Just make sure you keep copies of your completion certificates to include in your coaching portfolio.

* Note: Attendance at a Level 1 instructional clinic or completion of the Level 1 online course does not "certify" a coach by US Lacrosse. The level 1 and 2 online courses and clinics allow coaches to earn certificates of completion. This information is also recorded in the US Lacrosse database. The earning of certificates does not, however, implicitly imply certification as defined by the national governing body, US Lacrosse.

STEP 2
Easily apply online to certify and have your background check run
· Click here to begin the online certification process if you have satisfied all of the educational components listed above and submitted your CEP portfolio.
· Fill out the online application through US Lacrosse's secure certification and background screening portal.  US Lacrosse will collect the needed information to run this state-of-the-art background check through National Center for Safety Initiatives (NCSI).
· For questions about the screening process, please read the certification FAQs.
· Read all the waivers and instructions carefully. You will be asked to pay the certification fee of $35 when you log-in.  You will then be able to enter your background screening information.
· Please allow 4-6 weeks for NCSI to process your background check.
· Click here to read US Lacrosse's position on background checks. (pdf)

STEP 3
Get it: You are certified
·  When your background check has been satisfactorily completed, you will receive a confirmation e-mail and your initial certification card will be sent in the mail. Congrats!
Choose to renew your certification each year with your membership renewal, typically at the end of the month of September. Your certification will expire when your membership expires.  After 3 or 4 years, participate in a continuing education opportunity if you chose not to move on to Level 2 certification.

Playing Up
Q: I have an advanced 6th grader who would be best served if played up with our Senior 7/8 Travel team.  Is she allowed to play up?

A: Yes, in most cases.  By longstanding NJJGLL rule players may play up one age group (ie. A fifth or sixth grader may play up on a 7/8 Travel or Rec team playing Level A rules).  It is up to the player’s coaches, NJJGLL member program and the player’s parents to make the determination whether or not the player is capable of competing with older girls.  The exception to this rule is that fifth or sixth graders are not permitted to participate in Senior 7/8 Select games played with Level FC rules.  Please note: NJJGLL member programs, at their discretion, are free to implement a policy that does not permit players to play up if they choose to do so.

NJJGLL Web Site
Q: How do I change the data that shows up on the NJJGLL web site?

A: Go to www.njjgll.org
Click on “Town/Team Info”
Click on “Click here to update your Town/Team Info”
Click on your town/program name
Update the fields that need updating and submit the changes.

NJJGLL Rules Interpretation
Q:  In years past all coaches were required to go the Rules Interpretation session at the Drew Clinic.  One of my coaches missed the clinic this year.  Is there somewhere he can see the Rules Interpretation session?

A:  In person attendance at a Rules Interpretation session is no longer required.  Follow this link to view the NJJGLL Rules Interpretation session online
